Awesome New Song
While feeding my Portishead addiction (did I thank you for that, callieach?), I came across a very similar group called Massive Attack. Accidentally, I discovered that it is Massive Attack who provide the *awesome* theme to House, an actual track of theirs called Teardrop. Check out the slightly artistically-creepy video HERE. (But I warn you, it's YouTube, so it could be removed at any time).

This song is my new favourite thing. There are no words to express how amazing the artist is, and how insanely calming and wonderful the song itself is.

Reminds me of a similar Canadian-made band that made great chill-out music. Are they still around? Let's find out ... oh my gosh, they are! The band is called Delerium, and they make awesome, awesome music too.

EDIT: You can also check out the vid for my most favourite Delerium song, Innocente (Falling in Love), with guest vocals by Leigh Nash. (Yes, the singer from Sixpence None The Richer). Oh, I wrote so many great works of art to Delerium's albums...

*hugs Portishead very tightly*
I've been meaning to DL some Massive Attack. I love the song they do with Portishead. And now I love them even more since you telling me they do the theme for House. And I'll check out Delerium, too, because you rec, and I trust your judgement.

Now, I'm telling you to try to get your hands on some Indigo Girls music (preferably 'Least Complicated', 'Ghost', or 'Watershed', but it's all good). Why? Because the last time I told you to listen to music I found via one of my favourite famous people, you fell in love.
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 24th, 2007 12:10 am (UTC)
*looks around* which of your favourite famous people recs the Indigo Girls? I have heard some of their stuff, but will definitely check out your recs.

Delerium is ... serious win. It's great inspiration music (as I know I'm not the only one who writes to their stuff), and before them, I never thought I'd like the techno/house/etc music. But seriously - they rock. "They" are really just 2 guys who do the music part, but they have awesome, awesome people to do the vocals - i.e. Sarah McLachlan ("Silence", another fab song), Leigh Nash ("Innocente", "Orbit of Me"), Emily Haines ("Stopwatch Hearts"), Mediaeval Babes ("Aria"), and many, many more. Plus - they're Canucks!

Whoa, lots of free publicity for them ^ there!

*snickers cleverly*
Jill Hennessey is a massive IG fan. If you look closely enough, there's even a poster for them in Jordan's kitchen. ;)

Aha! Must DL Delerium.

I totally love the music reccing we're doing each other. When I think of something else, I'll let you know.
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 24th, 2007 01:40 am (UTC)
Hee hee ... yes, I know Jill's a huge Indigo Girls fan. I keep seeing the "ad" for CJ that plays on Global during the show, about the poster in Jordan's kitchen! I will definitely check them out now...

And I LOVE your Jordan icon! Look at that poker face... :)

Oh yes, and TOTALLY check out the link for the "House theme", as the entire song is just amazing.
Dakotahcallieach on April 24th, 2007 12:52 am (UTC)
I did! Twas flail-worthy. I guess it's just an extended version of the intro scene for the show, which is really cool.
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 24th, 2007 01:41 am (UTC)
Yep, I guess the theme "samples" this song. But the entire thing, and the lyrics/vocals are amazing! And Massive Attack are a British group, which makes me wonder ... did Hugh clue the music people at House onto them? Or are they "well known"??
Dakotahcallieach on April 24th, 2007 10:38 am (UTC)
Random, and not really pertaining to your question: didn't Brennan mention Massive Attack during 'The Headless Witch In The Woods'?
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 25th, 2007 12:56 am (UTC)
You know, I think she did. I need to rewatch that episode, anyway (for all the gorgeous TJ close up in the blue glow of the screen, and the grin when Angela asks to spend the night at his place, AND his little laugh, and ...). I knew that someone mentioned Massive Attack in an episode of SOMETHING.

*makes note to look into this*
Dakotahcallieach on April 25th, 2007 01:03 am (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it was her. She said she would have to let Snow-Patrol-killer-brother-guy listen to some Massive Attack 'next time' and I squealed (this was before 'killer' was added into the equation).
And yes, they are so cute in that ep.
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 25th, 2007 01:17 am (UTC)
Makes sense, and I can imagine it now. But I'll still have to go back and find it, just because I'm obsessive like that.

*goes back to watching stupid Cameron break cutie Chase's heart*
Dakotah: My OTPcallieach on April 25th, 2007 01:51 am (UTC)
*snort* Why do I think you have ulterior motives for watching that episode?

Poor Chase. *hugs him*
Is it strange that I find a heartbroken TJ Thyne Jesse Spencer attractive? (Because that's what I ask in situations like this.)
Wicked Veggie: Rockstarkimberkatie on April 25th, 2007 02:41 am (UTC)
Not at all, not at all. Heartbroken TJ Thyne Jesse Spencer is hawt.

I've been wanting to listen to the whole Teardrop song for forever... But ack, I do not want to watch the video and deal with stupid YouTube...
Wicked Veggiekimberkatie on April 24th, 2007 08:53 pm (UTC)
Have a listen ... it's def worth it. YouTube is silly, but since it's the actual video for the song (done by the band), and has nothing to do with House/Fox/Viacom ... it should be okay to be viewed, and posted.

I find it really interesting that 'Teardrop' and Massive Attack aren't all that known and popular in North America. I never knew that.

I've always loved the song and the band and when I first watched House I was super excited to find that they had used as the theme for the show. I remember sitting in the living room with Melanie's mom and when the opening credits came on I went 'OMG, I love that song!' and Melanie's mom looked at me and said 'That's an actual song?! I didn't know that.'

So yes House and the song are a perfect match!

Oh and I have heard of Delerium before but right now I can't think of any of their songs. Must go and check out their music!

Matching Izzie icons! :)

I'm pretty sure that Massive Attack were not on my radar before learning about them via my Portishead addiction. But I *love* Teardrop, and am still obsessed with it and have to play it each time I'm in my car. Such a great song...

It's strange that a lot of theme songs are *actual* songs first, eh? I mean ... I assume Teardrop wasn't written for House, but the writers/editors/music folk loved it and wanted to use the instrumental forthe theme.

The Bones theme is also a song, but I can't remember its title. I think it may have been done for the show, though, and then they just released a longer edition. But it's super cool. Also, Melanie was telling me that the Grey's Anatomy song is actually a song, and she heard it playing somewhere. Strange!
Elli: Sculdertheevilpuppy on April 29th, 2007 10:12 am (UTC)
Oh yeah, 'Teardrop' has been around for a while. I think the song must have come out at around the time the X-Files movie was released or a year later. But I know that I already listened to it when I was still in highschool.

So, it was definitely not written for House but I can see why they picked it as the theme of the show. It's great and catchy music and fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the show.

The Grey's Anatomy theme is definitely a song too. I know that because it's my cell phone ring tone. *giggles* It's by a band called PSAPP and the song is called 'Cozy in the rocket'. It's sort of stranege music that I probably couldn't listen to all day but for my cell it's great. ;0) If you want I can send it to you so that you can listen to it.

However, I had no idea the Bones theme was a song too. That is really odd because I at the moment I can't imagine the lyrics that would fit with this music. *lol* I must go and investigate this.

And YAY for the Izzys!!! *lol*
Wicked Veggie: aliceHuhkimberkatie on April 29th, 2007 02:39 pm (UTC)
The Bones theme, I think, was made strictly for the show. I believe the band is Chemical something. Not "My Chemical Romance", though ... no, wait ... Crystal Method? Yes, I think that's it.

You can find a downloadable version over here at 206_bones's community. They have an awesome music section with downloadable FULL songs for most of the music that's played on the show.

The theme, though, is more of a club/trip hop type thing. No lyrics, just really cool music.

I'll have to look into the GA theme, though. PSAPP? Really? Wow, okay. Strange.
