Hello out there! I hope you all are enjoying the long weekend (for those of you who get it), and making the most of this time away from work/before school starts/last days of freedom, etc etc.

Okay, anybody who knows me at all, knows that I'm a huge nature freak. I like spiders, and snakes, and all those creepy crawly type things. And I'm a total "animal rescue" freak as well. When I ran a summer camp, I used to run a "spider saving club" (which consisted of me and one young girl), and we used to find spiders indoors, and kindly move them back outside, before any harm could come to them.

Soooo ... it should come as no surprise that I like to bring nature indoors, and enjoy giving it a helping hand whenever the opportunity arises.

Such was the case in early July of this year. Last summer, my mother had given me a "swamp milkweed" plant to plant in my "backyard garden", as it would attract monarch butterflies. This year, the plant flourished, and did host a bundle of 12 little monarch caterpillars.

Okay, hope you enjoyed that! I'll be away roadtrippin' it to Fargo, ND until Sunday night, so ... if you don't hear from me, you'll know why!

Peace. Out.

While feeding my Portishead addiction (did I thank you for that, callieach?), I came across a very similar group called Massive Attack. Accidentally, I discovered that it is Massive Attack who provide the *awesome* theme to House, an actual track of theirs called Teardrop. Check out the slightly artistically-creepy video HERE. (But I warn you, it's YouTube, so it could be removed at any time).

This song is my new favourite thing. There are no words to express how amazing the artist is, and how insanely calming and wonderful the song itself is.

Reminds me of a similar Canadian-made band that made great chill-out music. Are they still around? Let's find out ... oh my gosh, they are! The band is called Delerium, and they make awesome, awesome music too.

EDIT: You can also check out the vid for my most favourite Delerium song, Innocente (Falling in Love), with guest vocals by Leigh Nash. (Yes, the singer from Sixpence None The Richer). Oh, I wrote so many great works of art to Delerium's albums...

*warning* DARK POST...

Dear KimberKatie, age 5:

Don't grow up. Life can only go down from where you are. You're five years old, about to start kindergarten and learn, learn, learn. You'll make friends, you'll throw up at school, you'll think your teacher is an alien, and you'll even fall in love and date this person for one special weekend when you are 9 years old.

Stay young. Life only gets more complicated and depressing after this. You will learn that people let you down all the time. Your friends are special to you, and at 2 years old - your brother is still your friend. You want to marry your cousin, whom you think is the best thing since sliced bread. You will soon learn that he's not.

Savour your innocence, because it will soon die a fiery, fiery death. Right now you think everything is sunny and happy, and everybody loves animals like you do. This is not true. People torture and kill animals daily, some of them "in the name of science". You don't know this yet, but you soon will - and it will make your heart cry.

Hold tight to those around you. Your grandfather is your idol - and you want to be able to create like him. He will die 5 years from now of lung cancer that spreads over his body in a matter of months. It will be a quick, yet painful death - and it will tear you apart to watch it. One month after this, your beloved Freddie crosses the Rainbow Bridge. DO NOT TURN 10! It will be the worst year of your life.

Until you are a teenager. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ADOLESCENCE. People will turn their backs on you, and everybody's identities will shift in your view. It's a tough time, and even though you will pull through - at times it will seem not worth the fight.

You definitely won't want to age into adulthood. Here you will discover that people are constantly disappointed in you, and judge every thing you do. You will fall in love with a career choice, but it won't last. Nothing in your life will last. You are full of great ideas, but ideas sprout wings and fly away from you. As will people. You will not be able to be completely happy - either with yourself, or with anybody around you.

I warn you: DO NOT GROW UP! Stay at the age of 5. You don't realize it now, but right at this moment, you have everything. You are happy. I warn you: things will not stay this way.

Randomness is my best friend.

1. We are *so* kicking America's ass at the World Women's Hockey right now.

1b. Watching hockey makes me feel very, very violent and angry. Maybe this is why I don't/shouldn't play competetive sports anymore. I recall a day when I would purposefully kick girls' shins so they'd leave me alone with the soccer ball. Yes. I was a violent child. Are you really surprised??

2. House was un-fricking-believably fantastic tonight. I should be bothered by how much House pokes fun at Cuddy's ass, but oddly, I'm not.

3. Work sucks. No, that's not true. Work is okay, (some of) the people SUCK. My situation sucks. This succccccks (said in Hodgins-fashion).

4. Watched "Aliens in a Spaceship" again last night. Pure win. Best. Season. Two. Episode. Ever. (don't confuse that with "best moment" - which is a huge toss up between many Hodgela moments such as the swing-date, the Cleopatra's bed scene, the rescued kiss, and the snuggly-wuggly smelting moment - among others).

Am having a hell of a time sitting down, with my damn tailbone acting up again. *grumble grumble*. I hate getting old. I hate this body. I hate hate HATE lots of things right now, and am grumpy and feel like swearing like a sailor. So I'll make this short. (*snap snap snap*)

Another cool meme, snagged from callieach:

1. Have your music library ready.
2. Choose one song from your music library whose title starts with the first letter (or number) of your screen name.
3. Repeat this process with each successive letter (or number) in your screen name until you run out of letters (or numbers).
4. Post up your results.

Keep On Tryin' - Poco
I Alone - k's Choice/Anouk
Maybe Not - Cat Power
Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts (also by Selah)
Everybody's Fool - Evanescence
River - Joni Mitchell
Kiss Me - Sixpence None The Richer
All The Fun of the Fair - Anthony Stewart Head/George Sarah
The Seed 2.0 - The Roots
I Promise You - Judith Owen
Elmo - Holly McNarland

(whoa, my username is long, and "E" and "K" are damn hard letters to find songs with. I had to go to my actual CDs for those ones...)

Now I'm going to watch Aliens in a Spaceship, and eat my chocolate cherry soy ice cream, so I don't get angry and kill somebody tomorrow at work...

Okay, so I'm aware that I've been doing an awful lot of these online survey/meme type things lately. But I've been (and will continue to) put them under a cut, so if you don't care - you don't have to read 'em. Alrighty?

This one looked fun...

So, it's kind of sad that I've had this journal up and running for quite a few months now (January, I believe, when I first got the dang account so I could have cute icons for my posts to theevilpuppy's journal). And yet, I haven't posted about the absolute loves of my life - my animal companions.

So ... here is that very post. Enjoy!

I am an avid believer in rescue organizations, and URGE anybody considering adding an animal to their lives to visit these organizations BEFORE buying. Animals should *not* be bought from breeders while those in shelters continue to die. My cats were rescued from a no-kill organization (otherwise, Gracie would have been euthanized early in her stint - a thought that makes me shudder), but organizations such as Humane Societies are still awesome places to rescue animals.

At the risk of sounding like a crazy animal-nut, I honestly cannot imagine my life without these wonderful animals. They truly *are* my life, and I would be lost without them.

(Now, I'd best go and post this before my computer decides to crash and I lose it all...)

Just a mini post to say that WOW! How insanely awesome does the promo for next week's House look?!?? It's called "Airborne", and you can Check it out here

House and Cuddy fly back from Singapore, encountering an outbreak on the plane. - From the official Fox page.

Yipes!!! I have so many questions I want answered, firstly: what are House AND Cuddy doing in Singapore?!? TOGETHER?!?!?

*fans self* Okay, time to relax. Probably just a work thing. Yes, yes, I'm sure that's it. But still ... that preview .... ack!!

Tuesday cannot come fast enough!!

On the spoiler front, I've only been mildly paying attention to House spoilers (usually through either Ausiello's report, or through E!'s Kristin), but all the info I've heard has been related to the Chameron relationship (Chase/Cameron), and nothing pertaining to Huddy.

My personal thoughts: House and Cuddy should just GET TOGETHER already, because she desperately wants a baby, and I'm sure House's little soldiers could help her with that. She's having troubles, yes, but if House's little soldiers are anything like him - they'll stubbornly find a way to make a baby happen!

EDIT: Somehow, my television obsessions are melting into my unconscious mind. Last night/this early a.m. (since I didn't get to sleep until after 2 a.m.) my wacky mind created a dream where I was in an old basement with Angela (from Bones) and Izzie (from Grey's Anatomy), and both Izzie and I were in love with Angela (???), and trying to win her attention. In addition, we were stuck in the basement with a bunch of other people (whom I didn't know, but the dream-me did) and couldn't get out. We kept prying the windows open, but there were snipers outside who were going to kill us, so we kept having to barracade the windows back up. Then suddenly Angela was pregnant, my tooth fell out - and I ended up at the dentist asking him to cement it back in. And I woke up. *shakes head at the strangness of the mind*
